What happened to Amazon?!

This post is my opinion on how the e-book market has been changing, based on my own experiences and those of my fellow authors—both new and established.

Warning: I’m going to be straight with you.

IT’S A JUNGLE OUT THERE!

It’s no surprise that the book market has become saturated with new titles within the last few years. It seems like writing has become a contagious disease and the act of self-publishing is the antidote. Now, not only do I have to compete with the big guys—by big guys, I mean traditionally published authors with a full support staff: editors, designers, public relations, advertising, extended distribution, street teams, Goodreads groups, dedicated bloggers and other authors in the company, who all show a preference to sharing each other within their imprint, but I have to stand up against a throng of my fellow indies just to maintain my fan base.

Release Day Blitz: Beautifully Broken by Christa Simpson

IT’S RELEASE DAY, BABY!bb banner - release day blitz

Matt is good at fixing things . . . but he quickly learns that people are a little more difficult to put back together.

Matthew Knight is a ladies man. He’s as handsome as he is sinister, with a natural charm that wows the skirt off every woman he passes. Having already had a piece, Felicia knows how dangerous it can be getting too close to all that raw masculine power. If she’s learned anything from their scandalous weekend together, it is that spontaneity leads to chaos. Still choking on guilt from his untimely accident, she refuses to let him in. Matt wants in, and he can be very persuasive.

He will do anything to ruffle Felicia’s feathers and she will stop at nothing to hide how much she enjoys it every time he does. He refuses to surrender until she caves and gives him what he wants —what he’s wanted all this time —her.

When the pair reunite, their chemistry explodes off the charts, but can Felicia harness her frozen emotions and resist him? Although Matt comes armed with all the right words, can he prove to her that she means more to him than another weekend rendezvous? Witness the power struggle and see who comes out on top.

EXCERPT

Matt wakes with a beautiful woman curled up next to him. He wraps her in his arms and holds her tightly. He’d given her the entire day and night to think. He quit with the tricks of seduction and they’d spent a good amount of time just talking and hiking and swimming. He had to keep busy to keep his mind straight after all. He has to face the facts. His heart is on the line. If this angel leaves him today, he fears he’ll be miserable for a long time to come.

His stomach twists with anxiety at the thought that she might not want to see him again. No, he can’t think that way. She has to want more. She is perfect for him.

Matt drags his lips across her neck and presses kisses across her beautiful chest. Felicia’s eyelashes flutter open and she stretches an arm out to the sky with a yawn. She draws her arm back into her body and sinks into him.

Her voice is soft and sleepy. “This is nice.”

Matt growls, drawing from his twisted thoughts. His lips trail down a flat abdomen. “Shut that pretty little mouth. Nice is never a word I want to hear coming out of it while I’m pleasing you.”

He showers wet kisses all over her body. “Amazing. Stunning. Life-altering, fine. But nice?” His tongue dips into her belly button. (more…)

Prologue for Beautifully Broken – Part One

Fine art photo of a woman-angelARC’s of Beautifully Broken went out a matter of days ago and reviews are already starting to come in! I thought I’d share part of the Prologue with you today. If you’ve read the first story in the series, Finding Destiny, you’ll recognize that this Prologue takes you back into the story, giving you the inside scoop of what happens when Matt, Felicia and Natalie take off to rescue Natalie’s truck from a snow bank.

Prologue: Wake Me From This Nightmare

My hands are freezing. It feels like my fingers might fall off if I don’t finish this job soon. It’s funny what a little bit of pussy can do to a man. Felicia has me eating out of the palm of her hand. She wants her friend’s truck fixed. I’m a mechanic. It only follows that I fix the truck, get her friend on the road and get Felicia and her wild ways back in my bed.

I am so eager to get her alone again that I agree to an onsite visit. I open the door to my truck and the three of us cram in. I shift her into four-by-four and we set off past the place where I’d met Felicia a matter of hours earlier. (more…)

7 Things You Need to Give up this year!

image

I may be talking about myself and I may be talking about others…you know who you are. One thing is for sure: we could all handle giving up these seven things this year!

My biggest challenge???

Procrastination is sitting at the number one spot for a reason!

As an author, social media is my number one no noTwitter, Facebook, Google Plus, Pinterest, Goodreads and now Instagram, OH MY!! Hours can fly by and I can chat with fabulous people, learn incredible things and have a good old laugh, but nothing more is had but a good time. Productivity is minimal, while my list of things to do grows infinitely.

Speaking of which…I have to go finish preparing my post for my Beautifully Broken cover reveal next Saturday! 😉

Which of the above are you guilty of? Come on, don’t be shy. 🙂

Contest: Name That Character!

I have a fabulous opportunity for one of my fans. How would you like to have your name as a character in my next book? Read on for more info!

Here I am, plugging away at my second round of edits on Beautifully Broken, book 2 in the Destiny Series, only to find that there remains a character that was not given a name. She appears on at least three occasions in the story, but apparently wasn’t important enough at the time for me to stop and do the honours of naming her.

Naked pretty princess among leaves

I don’t know why I’ve been struggling with picking a name for this girl, but it’s really irking me and I need a resolution, like yesterday. I’m hoping to turn this into a bit of a game that can be fun and mutually rewarding. Rather than me playing with baby names from a list, waiting for the right one to click, I thought I’d open it up to my following.

For starters, the character is a girl, but I’m open to a sex-change if need be! This girl is currently known as “the floozy cousin”. If that title offends you, then A. There’s no need to continue reading this post; and B. I can’t believe you’re still following me!! 😉

So, this girl (<-see, isn’t that annoying??) is one of Destiny’s single cousins who attends her wedding. Yes, Destiny is getting married! “The cousin” is a good looking girl who tags onto the studly hero of the story, Matthew Knight, but he has his eyes set on someone else, Felicia, the heroine of course! “The cousin” really bothers Felicia because, well, she’s hanging off of Matt like a cheap air freshener when Felicia wishes she were the one doing that. A Twist of Fate Teaser – Woo Woo

***18+ Only PLEASE***

Edwin is back…

I OPENED MY EYES and stretched my arms out over my head, drawing in a long breath to relieve myself from my alarming dream, which I faintly recalled but desperately wanted to remember. I could hear running water and figured Edwin was in the shower. For that I was grateful. He had been the object of my dream that had left me breathless and overwhelmed with a fresh lack of clarity.

I squeezed my shut and strained to remember the dream that had felt so real only moments earlier. Bits and pieces started to come back to me in vivid colour.

Tropical waves crashed the white sand shore, the bright sunshine warming my skin while the fresh morning air teased through my hair. There were endless views of tree-covered mountains, ridiculously grand rocks and crystal blue waters. All that was fine and great, but what tripped me up was that Edwin was there with me. We were isolated on a secluded island and I was completely happy.

I wore nothing but flowered bikini bottoms. Edwin wore fitted, white swim trunks, that contrasted against his dark, tanned flesh. He pulled me into his arms and so tenderly kissed my exposed neck and chest. His hands gently cupped and caressed my breasts, leaving me aching with a need so deep I could feel it in my bones.

Every touch scorched my senses and I wasn’t hiding my attraction to him, running my fingers through his hair and digging my nails into his back as our kiss became more heated and necessary. Edwin lowered me onto a large, white lounger with an overhang that blocked our half-naked bodies from the harsh morning sunrays. (more…)

Hidden Child by Nicole Colville – WARNING This story is very real.

Told from the child’s perspective, this story is guaranteed to tug at your heart strings.  Add it to your Goodreads shelves now!!

hidden child

Here’s my 5 star review for Nicole Colville’s Hidden Child:

This is a must read!! It touches on so many issues from the child’s perspective; child abuse, mental illness, a child’s struggle with loving a parent who continues to wrong him.I’ve never read anything quite like it, but it is so real.I wasn’t sure that I’d enjoy reading a story from a child’s perspective, especially since I mostly enjoy romance novels, but I found myself having to read this story to the end.  It was all encompassing.  In fact, there are a couple of vivid images that I would prefer to forget, but I can’t.

Terribly saddening, but very well written. Read it to see what I mean.
